DUDOL

The dudol is a popular native rice cake among the Ilocanos. It is a decade-old tradition of the Ilocanos which has a very critical stand now with the championing of the modern world. For the Ilocanos, it served as a way of socialization since it requires a group of people to do it in a couple of hours. It was then an opportunity for the young men that day to spend time and catch the attention of the ones they desire. Adults then had the time to talk with their neighbors as they eat this delicious merienda. The things needed for the dudol-making are long ladles, cooking stove (sinublan, a large clay pot), and some major cooking ingredients such as diket (glutinous rice), grated coconut, and molasses.
